# Connecting to dApps

## Connect your vault to any dApp, whether it’s embedded in io.finnet or on an external website.

A dApp (decentralized application) is an application that runs on a blockchain, such as a decentralized exchange, a staking service or a lending platform. dApps used for financial activity, such as swapping, lending or staking, are often called DeFi (decentralized finance).

**How you can connect**

Your vault connects to a dApp in one of two ways: directly inside io.finnet (embedded apps), or through WalletConnect. WalletConnect (WC) is an open protocol that allows users to connect their digital asset wallets to dApps on various blockchains without exposing their private keys, facilitating a more secure and user-friendly interaction with decentralized applications.

There are four ways to use a dApp with your vault:

1. **Embedded apps** on the Apps page connect automatically.
2. **dApps on the Apps page with “Connect externally”** open on their own website and connect with WalletConnect.
3. **Other dApps with a WalletConnect button** connect with a WalletConnect link.
4. **Other dApps without a WalletConnect button** also connect with a WalletConnect link. You get the link from another wallet’s QR code.

Whichever way you connect, every transaction follows your vault’s approval policy. Third-party apps are operated by their own developers under their own terms. See the Dashboard T&Cs.

**Case 1: Embedded apps (automatic connection)**

1. In the io.finnet dashboard, open “Apps”.
2. Find the app. Embedded apps have a blue-tick “Connect” button. Use the “Embed” filter to show only these apps.
3. Click “Connect”. The app opens inside io.finnet and your vault connects automatically.

**Case 2: Apps that connect externally**

1. In the io.finnet dashboard, open “Apps”. Use the “Wallet Connect” filter to show only these apps.
2. Find the app and click “Connect externally”. The app’s website opens.
3. In the app's tab, click “Connect” and choose “WalletConnect”.
4. Click “Copy to clipboard” under the QR code.
5. Finish in io.finnet (see “Connect with WalletConnect” below, from step 2).

**Case 3: Other dApps with a WalletConnect button**

1. Open the dApp’s website.
2. Click “Connect” and choose “WalletConnect”.
3. Click “Copy to clipboard” under the QR code.
4. Finish in io.finnet (see “Connect with WalletConnect” below, from step 2).

**Case 4: Other dApps without a WalletConnect button**

Some dApps show a list of wallets instead of a WalletConnect button.

1. Open the dApp and click “Connect Wallet”.
2. In the wallet list, select a mobile wallet that shows a QR code, for example Rainbow.
3. When the QR code appears, click “Copy link”.
4. Finish in io.finnet (see “Connect with WalletConnect” below, from step 2).

**Note:** You don’t need a Rainbow wallet. Selecting it only displays a connection link, and that link connects your io.vault.

**Connect with WalletConnect**

1. In the dApp, copy the WalletConnect link (see cases 2, 3 and 4 above).
2. In the io.finnet dashboard, click the WalletConnect button in the top-right corner.
3. Paste the link into the “QR code” field.
4. Select your vault and click “Connect Vault”.
5. Go back to the dApp. Your vault now shows as connected.

**Make a transaction**

1. In the dApp, set up the transaction (for example, a swap) and confirm it.
2. In the io.finnet dashboard, review the signature request and click “Submit for Approval”.
3. Approve and sign the transaction in the io.finnet mobile app.
4. Check the transaction status in the io.finnet dashboard.
